Email Import / Migration

 

Архива archives emails from the point at which the server is deployed. If there is a need to archive older (pre-deployment) emails, they need to be imported separately into the system. The Архива server has inbuilt facilities for importing messages from .EML (RFC2822) format, MBOX format, PST format, and direct import from MS Exchange.
 

Note: Although an import process may show as completed, the activity chart may still show that emails are being processed. The reason for this is that the import progress bar reflects the length of time it takes to extract all the emails and send them to Архива's Receive Queue. The Receive Queue is a temporary queue consisting of emails that are due for archiving and indexing. Once an email is present in the Receive Queue, it may take further time for all emails to be archived to the ACTIVE volume.

 

EML / MBOX / PST Import

 
To import messages from .EML (RFC2822) , MBOX or PST format, ensure a volume is available for archiving and then click the Import Data button in the Volumes section of the Архива configuration. Select the import source.

 

Enter a local source directory and press the Import button.
 

 

Recursive Import

If you wish Архива to import messages recursively, enter “*” in the include directories field.

Due to the requirements of the lib-pst and independentsoft PST libraries, large PST files >2GB will require large amounts of physical RAM. If you find that the PST import process is stalling, please consider increasing the amount of memory available to Архива.

PST file include folder structure data. To view folders in Search, ensure "When Data Available" is selected in Show Tree View field (accessible from Configuration->Search)

 Exchange Direct Import.

Архива is capable of performing a direct import of messages from Exchange 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013. Before an import is attempted, it is necessary to define an impersonation account that has sufficient rights to access all mailboxes.

  1. Follow the steps in Logins to setup Active Directory authentication
  2. Setup an impersonation account in Exchange Impersonation
  3. Create an Exchange connection in Connections. Save changes.
  4. Run the Test Connection button in the Exchange connection. If the test fails, refer to Cannot Establish Exchange Connection.
  5. Be sure that a volume is configured in the Архива console configuration
  6. Click the Import Data button in the Volumes section
  7. Select the newly created Exchange Connection as the Import source

    The Exchange import source will only appear once the Exchange Client Connection connection has been created in Connections.
  8. Enter the fully qualified domain name of the Exchange server
  9. Enter the account details for ‘journal’ in the impersonate username and password fields.

  10. Press the import button.

 

Folders Missing in Search? User folders are imported on Exchange import. To view folders in Search, ensure "When Data Available" is selected in Show Tree View field (accessible from Configuration->Search)

 Google Apps Import

The Google Import process consists of:

  1. Initiating mailbox dump requests for all users in an organization
  2. Waiting a day or more for those requests to be completed
  3. Importing all completed requests

Due to the batch nature of Google’s dump process, the import process can be cumbersome. Follow the below steps to complete the import:

  1. In Configuration->Volumes click the Import Email button
  2. Select Google as the Message Source
  3. In the Import Dialog enter the Google Apps admin email address and password
  4. Click the Import Button
  5. In the Progress Window ensure that login to Google is successful
  6. Close the Window and wait a day or more for requests to be completed
  7. Monitor the process of the Import, in System Status->Processes
